It’s been generally believed that Cleopatra committed suicide from the bite of a deadly asp. However a recent documentary on the famous queen put forth an entirely different viewpoint. Would she have chosen death by snake bite if she was extremely afraid of snakes? And were her handmaids also killed by an asp? Perhaps not. An asp would not have had enough venom in its system to kill several people in succession. Many historians now believe that poison was responsible, and that this was administered by enemies of the famous queen.
